Freshman Rep. Dean Heller's (R-Nev.) unusually frank comments about his own party needing to "clean house" -- starting with members of the historic class of 1994 -- are rubbing his GOP colleagues the wrong way. And predictably, members of the famous revolution class that ended a 40-year Democratic reign in the House are especially peeved.

WASHINGTON — The re-match between Republican Rep. Dean Heller and Jill Derby for the 2nd congressional seat just tightened a notch, so says the House analyst today at the Cook Political Report.
Cook upgraded the race in the mostly northern Nevada district from “solid” Republican to “likely” Republican, based in part on the Democratic Party’s willingness to spend money there.

DERBY OUTRAISES INCUMBENT OPPONENT
Reno, NV – Demonstrating her campaign's growing momentum, Democratic Congressional Candidate Jill Derby today announced raising over $293,000 in the second quarter of 2008, with greater than $353,000 cash-on-hand. This is more than 30% greater than incumbent Republican Dean Heller's reported second quarter receipts of just $224,000.
With the final numbers tallied, Derby took in $293,393.39, with $353,058.80 cash-on-hand.

Once Solid GOP District is “Worth keeping tabs on”

Reno, NV – The Cook Political Report, an independent non-partisan publication that analyzes campaigns across the country, has upgraded the competitiveness of Nevada's 2nd Congressional District from a “solid Republican” district to “likely Republican.” The Cook Political Report noted in its write-up on the race that “the poor national climate for the GOP and the DCCC's unprecedented financial edge" makes this district "worth keeping tabs on."
